Benefits of Diversity in the Workplace

Let's start with the good news. For decades, business thought leaders have preached the value of workplace diversity. This tendency has a logical explanation. In fact, a lot of studies have demonstrated how critical it is to have a diverse workforce for your company's overall performance(Walters, 2019). 

1. Revenue is boosted by diversity

In fact, according to a recent study, diverse organizations generate 19 percent more income than their non-diverse rivals. Many of the benefits listed below contribute to that high number, including invention, creativity, and the avoidance of groupthink.

2. The talent pool expands as a result of diversity

This one is straightforward. A company's talent pool automatically expands when it is able to recruit people from various origins and cultures. Applicants from traditionally underprivileged cultures, in particular, are likely to feel empowered, bringing a diverse mix of skills and experience to your organization.

3. Innovation is fueled by differences

The above-mentioned skill set and experience, in turn, have a significant impact on innovation. According to one survey, 85 percent of CEOs believe that having a diverse and integrated workforce is one of the most important aspects in fostering creativity(Walters, 2019). 

4. Creativity is boosted by diversity

Exposure to and experience in multicultural situations is a powerful source of creativity. According to a recent study, it tends to boost concept flexibility and awareness of the linking point between these ideas by a significant amount.

5. Groupthink is reduced by diversity

You're probably familiar with groupthink as the death of creativity and invention, as well as a false sense of invincibility. According to one study, the most effective weapon against it is diversity of thought, which is often facilitated by a diversity of origins(Zojceska, 2018).

6. Problem-solving time is reduced

Companies with a more diverse workforce solve challenges faster.

According to the Harvard Business Review, diverse teams can solve problems faster than cognitively similar individuals. Employees from various backgrounds have a variety of experiences and perspectives, which allows them to bring a variety of solutions to the table. As a result, the optimum solution can be picked sooner, resulting in quicker problem-solving(Zojceska, 2018).
